Dr Siani, Dr DeLong and Dr Vreeland provide high dose nutrient Intravenous (IV) Therapy. IV therapy is the infusion of liquid substances directly into the vein. The substances that our doctors use are IV vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other natural organic compounds which are custom tailored to your individual needs and goals.

What do I need to do in order to receive IV therapy?

The initial visit is with Dr Siani, Dr DeLong or Dr Vreeland, where in which she will decide if IV nutrients are right for you and which nutrient combination would best suit your healthcare needs and goals. After the initial intake a simple blood draw must be completed to determine that you have a specific enzyme, called G6PD, which is necessary to receive high dose vitamin C, as well as a checking for liver and kidney function. There is a sub-population with a genetic disorder called, Glucose-6-phosphate (G6PD) deficiency, in which a person does not have enough of the G6PD enzyme. G6PD helps red blood cells function normally. This deficiency must be ruled out by a simple blood test before initiating high dose vitamin C therapy, otherwise it may cause hemolytic anemia.

What happens during an IV therapy treatment?

Each IV therapy treatment lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the amount of fluid and nutrients that are being given. The treatment begins by having a catheter inserted in a vein in the arm, the same veins that are used to draw blood. Once the catheter is in place you can sit back and enjoy the revitalizing effects of high dose nutrients.

IV nutrient therapy may be helpful for:

  • Cold and Flu
  • Allergies and Asthma
  • Athletic performance enhancement
  • Fatigue
  • Gastrointestinal problems (IBS, Crohn's, Colitis)
  • Post-surgery recovery (including bariatric and cosmetic surgery)
  • High blood pressure
  • Fibromyalgia and Neuropathic pain
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Migraines

What are the advantages of intravenous vitamin therapy?

1) Nutrients delivered directly to cells through the bloodstream
With intravenous nutrient therapy, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients are quickly circulated through your bloodstream, where they are immediately available for use. With IV vitamin therapy, there is no waiting for the nutrients to be absorbed by the intestines and processed by the liver, they are directly absorbed by the cells and tissues that need them.

2) Allows for high-dose therapy necessary for effective treatment outcomes
Clinical studies have shown that there are specific blood or tissue concentrations of certain nutrients that must be achieved in order for them to be pharmacologically active. Vitamin C is a good example of such a nutrient. Numerous studies show high concentrations of Vitamin C are
required in the serum and intracellular fluid before it can exert its beneficial effects.

These high concentrations simply cannot be achieved by taking the nutrients orally. Many supplements when taken orally are excreted before they can be absorbed. Complicating this further is that many patients have conditions that impair their intestinal absorption in the first place. Furthermore, many patients cannot tolerate high doses of certain vitamins and minerals due to stomach upset. Therefore, only intravenous vitamin therapy can directly deliver pharmacologically effective doses of the required nutrients.

3) Fewer side effects
Upset stomach or intestinal problems like cramps, nausea, or diarrhea, can sometimes result from taking high doses of certain vitamins and minerals orally, such as Vitamin C, B vitamins and magnesium. Intravenous vitamin therapy bypasses the stomach and intestines allowing for high intake of many nutrients without these uncomfortable side effects.

We offer the following IV treatments at Newport Integrative Health.

High Dose IV Vitamin C
Most people understand that Vitamin C is a vital nutrient. It is required for, making serotonin and all other neurotransmitters, optimal immune system function, and it is one of the most potent anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. High doses of vitamin C have been shown to prevent and treat many conditions such as, wound healing, depression, acute and chronic colds and flus, fatigue, and allergies.

A typical dose of vitamin C in IV therapy is 15-25 grams. Doses of up to 100 grams can be given safely and effectively. Doses this high, when taken orally, cause diarrhea and will not be absorbed. The maximum dose with oral therapy is about 5 grams.

IV Glutathione
Glutathione is the bodies most potent antioxidant. It is created by the body by combining three amino acids, cysteine, glycine and glutamate. Many people are over run with oxidative stress caused by poor diet, toxicity, and stress, among other things, leading to a deficiency in glutathione.

Oral glutathione is not stable and is very poorly absorbed. When taken orally it is naturally broken down into its three amino acid parts by the stomach acid and digestive enzymes, making it useless. IV glutathione on the other hand is directly absorbed into the blood stream and readily used by the cells to fight off oxidative damage, optimize liver function and detoxification.

High Dose mineral and nutrient IV with glutathione
This powerful blend of vitamins and minerals can help treat a broad spectrum of health conditions. It is particularly helpful in supporting the immune system, assisting in detoxification, and in the treatment of fatigue. Nutrients can easily be adjusted, added or removed to customize the IV according to the patient’s needs.

Nutrients that are included:

  • Vitamin C
  • B-complex
  • Calcium
  • Chromium
  • Vitamin B5
  • Folic acid
  • Magnesium
  • Vitamin B12
  • Potassium
  • Vitamin B6
  • Selenium
  • Zinc

Amino Acid IV
Amino acids are the building blocks for all proteins found in the body. They are the necessary building blocks, not only for muscle, but also enzymes for metabolism and detox, important components of the immune system such as immunoglobulins, neurotransmitters, etc.

When infusing the body with amino acids, such as tryptophan, tyrosine and glycine, we are providing the body with the necessary building blocks to be converted into neurotransmitters such as, serotonin, dopamine, and GABA, among others. Vitamins, minerals, and coenzymes, such as vitamin C, folate and other B vitamins are infused along with these amino acids to allow for optimal conversion. With this treatment we can often reestablish proper levels of circulating neurotransmitters to help ease or overcome anxiety and depression.

  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin B6
  • Folic acid
  • Magnesium
  • Glycine
  • Inositol
  • Methionine
